Creativation 2020

2020 started out strong for Notions with Creativation last month. For those who are not familiar with Creativation, it's an event held once a year in Arizona where thousands of individuals in the creative industry gather to learn, connect and discover.

We couldn't think of a better way to tell you about this event other than to interview those who were actually there. Find out what products were hot, who had the best booth set-ups, which designers were there and much more!

Shannon

Buyer, 5th year attending Creativation

What products were the show favorites that everyone was going crazy about at Creativation 2020?
The items that stick out in my mind are:
1) Tonic Craft Tidy
2) Sizzix Switch
3) Tim Holtz Deckle Trimmer
4) Wendy Vecchi Mini Stay-tion
5) Tim Holtz Ink Pad storage tin
6) Dylusions paints in bottles with cap down
7) Dina Wakley Media Gloss Spray

What new product did you find most exciting?

Sizzix Switch – this will be great for using the steel rule dies!

(Shannon posing at the very colorful Sizzix booth.)

What booth had the best set up? Why?

Doodlebug. They had a great setup. So colorful and they had an ice-cream cart. The colors are amazing, and it was just a happy booth to be in.

(Doodlebug with their eye-catching display.)

Busiest/most popular booth at Creativation in your opinion?

Ranger. They are always jam packed. With all the designers demoing they always draw a crowd.

(Dyan Reaveley demoing products to her fans.)

Explain the enamel pins…why were enamel pins so big at this event?

The past few years this has been a big deal. With the new Stamping Village especially. It is just something fun that the vendors have started doing. Everyone wants to collect all the flair. The past few years the vendors have even made pins to go with collections. Lawn Fawn, Doodlebug, Concord & 9th and Hero Arts are just a few. People just like the collecting aspect. It’s fun to walk up to someone and ask "which pins do you have?" Then if you don’t have that one, you want to go to their booth to get it. A great way for the vendors to also get retailers in their booth.

(A lanyard full of enamel pins is a sign of a successful day at Creativation!)

Biggest Creativation 2020 takeaway?

The amount of effort and time taken by the Exhibitors to create beautiful booths, and project inspiration. It just shows that we are an industry that does love what we do. That everyone still puts 150% effort into making it nice for those coming to see the new products. You don’t leave feeling let down. You can go back and have lots of education and inspiration.

(A few more booths that stood out this year. Can they stage our houses next please?!)

What products were the show favorites that everyone was going crazy about at Creativation 2020?
There was a lot of buzz about the cosplay paint that came out!

Any new trends you see emerging in the next year?
It seems like cosplay could be taking off and enamel pins are still a huge hit.

Any new project ideas you left wanting to try? If so, from who?
I always want to try what I see because it is all so great! People are so creative!

What new product did you find most exciting?
I really liked Tonic Studios’ new scrap caddy. Super convenient.

(We can always spot out Tonic Studios with their beautiful pop of orange!)

What booth had the best set up? Why?
Notions and I really thought Doodlebug had a cute set up.

(20 years of Doodlebug cuteness!)

Busiest/most popular booth at Creativation in your opinion?
Stampers village had a lot of traffic.

For those who weren’t able to attend Creativation this year, what was something cool that happened?
Ranger has a VIP event that I got to attend. It was really cool to meet the designers in person.

Explain the enamel pins…why were enamel pins so big at this event?
I think people enjoy showing off their flare and pin trading. I know I did!

Did you meet any new designers at Creativation? If so, who?
Dyan Reaveley and Wendy Vecchi from Ranger.

Anything surprising about Creativation 2020?
Since it was my first year attending the whole experience was a surprise. I really had a nice time getting to know the customers.

Biggest Creativation 2020 takeaway?
There is still a ton of support from the vendors to the industry and Notions.

What products were the show favorites that everyone was going crazy about at Creativation 2020?
Lawn Fawn was the buzz talk in the Stamping Village.  Also, a lot of chatter about the new Sizzix Stitch Machine.

What booth had the best set up? Why?
We R Memory Keepers always has a huge impressive booth with many stations for demos. First rate booth.

Busiest/most popular booth at Creativation in your opinion?
Ranger… Tim Holtz.

(The awesome Tim Holtz demoing his products.)

Explain the enamel pins…why were enamel pins so big at this event?
People love to collect and show off how many they have.  Plus it brings them into the booth.  You should have to earn the pin by asking about our business instead of a basket that anyone can take.

Did you meet any new designers at Creativation? If so, who?
(Have you met Bob?) The Bob Ross cut-out was in our booth throughout the show.  People were taking selfies with him!

(The Dynamic Duo–our Sales Rep Laura and the man himself, Bob Ross!)

(Lindsay gave us permission to use this selfie with Bob from her Instagram, @shrimpsaladcircus. Thanks Lindsay, we love it!)

Tracy

We were pretty excited for the new machine from Sizzix – Big Shot Switch (not available until June though)

What booth had the best set up? Why?
I never left the booth much so I can’t honestly answer this question.  But we LOVED the wall that ArtBin had – it was backlit and very cool!

(You couldn't miss ArtBin's booth even if you tried.)
(

Probably American Crafts because they house so many brands! And then Ranger when the designers were all there doing demos.

They are a collector item and store owners were determined to fill their lanyards with the newest pins from this show!
